Virginia's Northern Neck is generally considered to be composed of the five counties from north to south: King George, Westmoreland, Richmond, Northumberland, and Lancaster, although as often as not, the imaginary line is drawn at U. S Route 301.  However you make the cut, coming to the Northern Neck is like stepping back into the history pages of the country.  Virginia Route 3, nickednamed "HistroryLand Highway" is the main throughfare transiting the region.  As in colonial times, this road served at the main overland route connecting the towns and villeges of the region with the urban areas to the west, north and south.
